Andersen vs. Pella Windows: How Their Warranties, Materials and Sales Models Differ

Both are family-owned, but their sales models and warranty structures differ in ways that matter. A side-by-side based on each company's own documents.

The short version

We don't pick a winner on quality. What we can compare is how each company is structured and what its warranties say. Both describe themselves as family-owned: Andersen was founded in 1903 and Pella in 1925. For each maker in depth, see our Andersen guide and Pella guide.

How you buy

Andersen says it does not sell directly to homeowners or offer installation; you buy through certified contractors, retailers or Home Depot, or through Renewal by Andersen, which sells and installs direct. Pella sells through its own showrooms, independent dealers, Lowe's and online, and installs through its branches or certified contractors.

Materials

Andersen's 100 Series is Fibrex composite, the 200 and 400 Series are wood with a vinyl exterior, and the A-Series is wood. Pella's lines include Impervia fiberglass, 250 Series and Encompass vinyl, Lifestyle clad wood and the wood Reserve line.

Warranty structure

The Andersen 400 Series warranty we read is transferable owner-to-owner, with 20 years on standard glass and 10 years on non-glass parts, and it does not include labor. The Pella warranties we read are headlined as Limited Lifetime but are owner-occupant only and non-transferable, converting to a transferable 10-year term when the home is sold, and they include 2 years of labor.

Pella's documents also include arbitration and class-action waivers with a 90-day opt-out. Warranty editions change, so compare the current documents for the exact series.

How to decide

If you may sell within a few years, transferability matters; if you plan to stay, owner-occupant lifetime terms may matter more. Whichever you choose, ask who installs and use our installer vetting questions and brand comparison.
