Andersen Windows: Product Lines, Warranty Terms and How They're Sold

Andersen sells through certified contractors and retailers, while Renewal by Andersen sells and installs direct. Here's how its lines and warranties are structured, based on the company's own documents.

Who Andersen is and how it sells

Andersen's About page describes the company as privately held and family-owned, founded in 1903 and based in Bayport, Minnesota.

Andersen states that it does not sell directly to homeowners or offer installation. Homeowners buy through Andersen Certified Contractors, retailers or Home Depot. Renewal by Andersen is a separate direct-to-consumer arm that handles selling, manufacturing and installing with its own installers.

Because install quality varies by contractor, use our installer vetting questions whichever route you take.

Product lines and materials

Based on Andersen's product pages: the 100 Series is made of Fibrex, a composite of reclaimed wood fiber and thermoplastic polymer, which Andersen says is twice as strong as vinyl (a maker claim). The 200 Series pairs a wood interior with a vinyl exterior, and the 400 Series is wood with Perma-Shield vinyl cladding. The A-Series is Andersen's premium wood line, and Andersen Aluminum is listed separately.

Renewal by Andersen's Acclaim windows are made of Fibrex, according to the company.

What the warranties say

The 400 Series warranty with Stormwatch we read (form dated 2019) is owner-to-owner transferable. Standard glass is covered for 20 years, impact-resistant glass for 10, and non-glass parts such as sash, frame members, operators and locks for 10. It states that labor is not included and that Andersen chooses between parts, repair or refund.

The 100 Series warranty we read covers the whole unit including glass for 10 years and says installation labor is not included. We found no transferability language in it, so don't assume coverage passes to a buyer.

We saw summaries of 20-year glass and 10-year non-glass terms for the 200 Series, standard 400 Series and A-Series, and of 20-year glass and Fibrex coverage with a 2-year installation warranty for Renewal by Andersen, but did not read those documents in full. Warranty terms change by edition and product line. This guide summarizes the documents we read; always get the current warranty for the exact series you're quoted.

What to ask before you buy

Ask which series is quoted, which warranty edition applies, whether labor is covered, and who installs the windows. Compare the answers with Pella and Marvin, and see how the makers compare in our brand comparison.
