Window Brands Compared: Andersen, Pella, Marvin, Milgard, Simonton and Anlin
How six major window makers differ on ownership, product lines and warranty structure, based on each company's own documents rather than rankings.
How we compared
We don't name a single "best" brand. Instead we read each maker's own warranty documents and product pages and compare ownership, materials, how the windows are sold and installed, and what the warranty actually covers. Warranty editions change, so confirm the current document for the exact product line before you buy.
We did not use price data. Installed prices vary by home, product line and installer, and we found no authoritative price comparison across brands. For general ranges see our window replacement cost breakdown.
Andersen and Pella: the family-owned names
Andersen says it is privately held and family-owned, founded in 1903. Pella says it is family-owned, founded in 1925 and based in Pella, Iowa. Andersen does not sell directly to homeowners; its windows go through certified contractors, retailers and Home Depot, while its Renewal by Andersen arm sells and installs direct. Pella sells through its own showrooms, independent dealers and retailers.
Read the full details in our Andersen guide, our Pella guide and the side-by-side Andersen vs. Pella comparison.
Marvin: wood and fiberglass
Marvin describes itself as family-owned and family-led, founded in 1912 in Warroad, Minnesota. Its lines range from aluminum-clad wood to Ultrex fiberglass, and its limited warranty is described as fully transferable. See our Marvin guide.
Milgard and Simonton: vinyl-focused makers
Milgard's current warranties took effect January 1, 2026. The standard warranty is a lifetime limited warranty, and a Full Lifetime Warranty that adds glass breakage and labor coverage is an optional upgrade on select lines. Older descriptions of a standard "full lifetime" warranty no longer match the documents. See our Milgard guide.
Simonton makes vinyl windows and is part of Cornerstone Building Brands. Its warranty terms differ by region and product line, including whether labor is covered. See our Simonton guide and the Milgard vs. Simonton comparison.
Anlin and Window World
Anlin is a California-based vinyl maker that says it is a member of MITER Brands. Its warranty excludes salt-air corrosion, which matters for coastal homes such as those in San Diego. See our Anlin guide.
Window World sells windows under its own brand and says in its own announcements that it ranks first on the Qualified Remodeler Top 500 list, which is revenue-based. Its warranty is described as a manufacturer's lifetime limited warranty. Whichever brand you choose, the installer matters as much as the product. Use our installer vetting questions.
