Pella Windows: Product Lines, Warranty Terms and How They're Sold

Pella's headline lifetime warranties are owner-only and drop to 10 years when you sell. Here's how its lines, sales model and warranties are structured, based on Pella's own documents.

Who Pella is and how it sells

Pella's About page describes the company as family-owned, founded in 1925 and based in Pella, Iowa, with more than 10,000 team members and 20 US manufacturing sites.

Pella sells through company-owned showrooms, independent dealers, Lowe's and online, and installs through Pella branches or Pella Certified Contractors, according to its own pages.

Product lines and materials

Pella's site lists Reserve (wood or clad), Lifestyle Series (clad over wood), Impervia (fiberglass made of a material Pella calls Duracast), the 250 Series and Encompass by Pella (vinyl), and Hurricane Shield and Defender Series coastal vinyl windows.

Pella explains both pocket (insert) and full-frame installation. For how those methods differ, see our retrofit vs. full-frame guide.

What the warranties say

We read three Pella warranties in full. For wood windows (effective December 1, 2020), basic coverage and non-laminated glass are Limited Lifetime for an owner-occupant, but non-transferable: when the home is sold or no longer owner-occupied, it is replaced by a transferable 10-year warranty. Labor is covered for 2 years.

For Impervia (effective November 30, 2020), the Duracast frame is a non-transferable Limited Lifetime warranty for the original homeowner, glass is a transferable 20-year warranty, and labor is covered for 2 years. For vinyl (August 2023 edition), non-glass parts are lifetime for the owner-occupant and become 10 years after a sale, while laminated glass including HurricaneShield is 10 years.

All three include arbitration and class-action waivers with a 90-day opt-out. EnduraClad paint has no corrosion, crack or peel coverage in seacoast areas (within 2 miles of the coast). Pella also lists a Vista Series warranty effective January 1, 2026, which we did not read. Warranty terms change by edition and product line. This guide summarizes the documents we read; always get the current warranty for the exact series you're quoted.

What to ask before you buy

Ask whether you're buying from a Pella branch or an independent dealer, who installs, and how the warranty's owner-occupancy rules affect resale. See Andersen for a different warranty structure, our Andersen vs. Pella comparison, and our installer vetting questions.
